Hey, Deano! A very interesting observation! You know, maybe I’m not as good at compromise as I’ve thought (I’ve always considered myself something of a compromiser/accomodater.) Maybe compromise isn’t the way to go.

Steve, I am not uncompromising in all aspects of life. When it comes to personal relationships I think compromise and accomodation are essential and very beneficial at times. Where I draw the line when it comes to relationships is when my integrity, self-respect, and physical/mental well-being are compromised. Those things should never, under any circumsatances, be tolerated.

But our physical/mental well-being is negatively affected and our integrity is questioned in SO MANY situations in our personal lives . . .

You are absolutely correct Steve! For me, it comes down to the fact that I always have a choice in how I react to these situations. I am definitely not perfect at this, that’s for sure. This requires constant vigilance in my life. I could sit around and “why me” all of these challenges, however, I choose to think “why not me?”. What makes me so special that I should not be challenged in these ways? Am I that different than others? I choose to see these challenges as growth opportunities.
Have an HBR day,
